Oibituary, continued:   She was a loyal friend, with relationships dating back to elementary school, built on warmth and candor. She was genuine and independent, not swayed by fads or trends. She was always listening to the music she grew up with, but also enjoyed a variety of genres. If you followed her on social media, you would be treated to one of Kathleen's favorite songs every day.
She was an avid cyclist, yogi, runner and swimmer. She rode her bicycle all over Bexar County and throughout the hill country. She especially enjoyed cycling on the local park bike trails, where she would see wild deer and other animals in their natural habitat. Kathleen loved being outside in nature. She loved flowers and animals, especially her puppies Ricky (Ricardo) and Fred (Mertz).
Although Katheen practiced family law for over 20 years, she much preferred adoptions and working with CPS children. Kathleen had keen empathy for disadvantaged and marginalized people.
When she retired from the practice of law at age 49, she opened one of the first yoga studios in town, Hot Body Yoga in Terrell Plaza. To this day, yoga folks talk about her studio being one of the best places in town with her gentle voice, specialized instruction, and a spa-worthy treatment with lavender-scented towels at the end of class.
Kathleen was also an avid organic gardener with a 500-square-foot organic garden. Plenty of produce was shared with the neighbors, friends and the homeless. She donated money yearly to the Sierra Club, the Texas Freedom Network, The UTSA Library, and the American Civil Liberties Union, reflecting her commitment to the environment, social justice, fairness, and equity.
Kathleen loved traveling and often went to Mexico with her husband and friends. She loved New York City and went there several times to listen to plays and musicals and to walk around Prospect Park. But most of her trips involved her bike - she took bicycle trips all over Texas and the United States. Many of these out-of-state rides were with her niece, Suzy, and her husband, Ron.
Kathleen was a gentle, kind soul who graced the earth for 71 years. She is now for the ages.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Scott Sawtelle; her brother, Michael Curry and wife, Lisa Curry; her sister, Terri Curry; her nieces, Heather Curry, Alison McAdams and husband Brant, and their children Payton and Addie; her niece, Suzy Snell Medlock and husband Ron; her nephews, Sam Alkek and Chris Snell and wife Rachel and their children Evan and Luke. She is also survived by a large group of Lebanese cousins, including the Karam family, on her father's side, too numerous to name. She was friends with all of them. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge Peter Michael and Mary Margaret Curry, her brother, Bruce Robertson Jr., and by her first husband William Armour Ball, who died in 1985.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Szender at the START Center For Cancer Care and the Stone Oak Methodist Hospital ICU nurses for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers or if you wish to honor Kathleen's life, a donation may be made in her name to one of her preferred charitable organizations mentioned above.
A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held this Spring.

Memories by Kathleen's friends

Mimi Mason (Mrs. James E. Monnig)
Although I was not a member of the AHHS class of 1971, I got to know some of the members.
Kathleen was a very good friend to me. We stayed in touch and even though some times we didn’t see each other for a while, we could just pick back up where we left off. I will miss her greatly.
She was always so joyful, considerate, authentic, and kind. Taking yoga from her was something I will treasure, always. My children both enjoyed her classes and in retrospect her classes and friendship were healing to them during a difficult time.
She was a fan of my husband, Jim Monnig, as they both were in Family Law. ( He still is!!) She knew my children and always asked about them. They are Maggie Mason Cannon, and Justin Mason. (Their father is Tay Mason.)
She came to visit my abused rescue dog, Hector, when other people were afraid of him. Her connection with animals was so lovely and genuine.
Kathleen was someone who I always admired for so many reasons. Her generosity was unending. She was gifted in so many ways. She was an original wild flower.
Sincerely, Mimi Mason (Mrs. James E. Monnig)

In 1965, Kathleen played Helen Keller in the SA Little Theater production of The Miracle Worker. I was blown away by her courage and grit by taking on such a challenging role in the portrayal of a blind, deaf and mute Helen….Patty Duke did in the Movies…Kathy did it Live and On Stage…Bravo!!!!

I’m so very sorry to hear this sad news. Over the past few years Kathy and I would frequently cross paths in the aisles of Central Market and have a nice chat, probably blocking other shoppers. Rest in peace, dear Kathy.

So sad to hear this. She was such a consistent bright spot. Affable to everyone, solution-oriented, sane and stable in a world gone a little crazy.

Oh my god that’s so sad. I thought she was very healthy and outdoorsy and a bicycle rider. This comes as a big surprise to me and knowing she’s leaving this earth is sad.
Prayers and my best to her family.

In 1959, I met Kathy in our Kindergarten class at St. Peter's  Primary School. I went on to Cambridge and in 6th grade, Kathy came there and we were in the same classroom. She was a fun loving person with a great sense of humor. Kathleen was open-minded person who volunteered to help others and make this world a better place to live. You are and will be missed by so many,

I ran into Kathy Curry in San Antonio every several years.  She was always remarkably friendly, kind and genuine.  What I will always remember about her was that role she played as Helen Keller in the Miracle Worker at the San Pedro Playhouse.  Her performance was jaw-dropping. We were all lucky to have crossed paths with her.
